Position Overview Ascend Performance Materials is the premium provider of high-quality chemicals, fibers and plastics. The Structural Engineer – Capital Projects is the technical resource within the Capital Engineering organization that is accountable for the detailed structural designs on projects while also supporting site structural engineering upgrades. This entails early involvement in the conceptual design through field startup following the Ascend stage gate process. This position is accountable for structural designs, reviews, and evaluations on the technical correctness of designs, execution and field construction. Civil and foundation designs and reviews are also a part of this role. All designs and installations are reviewed to ensure they are safe, operable, maintainable and will function as intended. The structural engineer will support capital projects or site engineering efforts across multiple Ascend sites as needed. Key Responsibilities Develop and/or review designs and installations to ensure correctness and compliance with Ascend standards, applicable codes (ASCE, AISC, ASTM, AWS, OSHA, PIP, etc.), regulatory requirements and project deliverables Responsible for the structural design basis for plant projects, includes knowledge of structural, foundations, and equipment(rotating, fixed) loads. Field experience and understanding of restrictions associated with working in an operating plant. Lead the development of structural and/or civil construction bid packages. Lead team reviews and approve vendor supplied documents. Recommend options for alternative solutions. Provide Engineering man-hour estimates that support deliverables. Evaluate deliverables and make recommendations for qualified contracted services (inspections, testing…) Develop cost estimates / scopes consistent with the stage gate phases Work with contractors to ensure we get quality craftsmanship. Work within project teams to produce “right sized” design deliverables. Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive team and other key leaders on the status of the integrated supply chain, key performance metrics, and other relevant information. Team Reports to: Sr. Project Engineering Manager | Peers: Project Engineering Team Location Pensacola Required Experience BS in Structural or Civil Engineering or a related field combined with relevant experience Minimum of 10 years chemical / industrial in-plant experience Experience with Process Industry Practices Experience with QC requirements and documentation for Civil/structural construction Experience with Risk Assessment evaluations and Constructability reviews Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred Skills Knowledge of concrete mixes and additives for corrosion prevention Self-starter, able to work with minimal supervision Confident in providing creative, cost effective solutions Development of complete system designs and layouts Proficient writing and evaluating relevant specification sheets Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously to meet schedules/budgets Make sound technical decisions based on good engineering practices Actively participate and “champion” Ascend’s safety initiatives Good interpersonal communication skills to effectively interact within a team environment at all levels of the organization Sound organizational skills that build trust in meeting commitments Demonstrates the ability to function and respond to changing priorities Leadership traits that enhance the project team effectiveness Experience and knowledge with design software Effective computer skills using Microsoft Office Familiar with SAP functionality for cost reports Skills Summary: About Us: Ascend Performance Materials is the premium provider of high quality chemicals, fibers and plastics.
